Skinny silk twillies, narrow wool scarves and small neck ties that add detail without weight. A guide for women who like a light touch of print and texture.

A scarf does not have to be a big woolly thing. I like the skinny ones, the ones you knot once at the neck, tie on a bag handle or wind through a ponytail, because they add a little color and pattern and never get in the way.

Silk is the place to begin. The checkerboard twilly from LOST PATTERN and Burberry's skinny check scarf are small enough to wear with a white shirt, and Chan Luu's beaded skinny scarf hangs like jewelry over a plain tee. When it gets cold, Acne Studios and Polo Ralph Lauren do clean wool versions that sit under a coat without bulk. For a bigger print, the A.L.C. silk scarf folded into a triangle looks sharp under a denim jacket. Pick one that matches a color you already wear and tie it loosely, so it looks like an afterthought.
