The Wolf Gang is an independent Adelaide label that began with a suede pouch and a tassel and grew into dresses, denim and bags with a lot of personality. I love a brand that dresses for the trip and the long lunch at the end of it.

The Wolf Gang Dresses: What I'd Actually Buy
How Vanessa Pearce built The Wolf Gang
I trust a designer who spent years in fashion retail before making her own thing, and that is Vanessa Pearce. The Wolf Gang began in Adelaide in 2016, after a trip to Bali set Pearce and her husband Sam off sourcing with makers. The first collection centered on a soft suede pouch with a colorful tassel, the Bedouin Clutch, and it carried the label well beyond Australia.
That beginning still makes sense to me when I look at the point of view. The work comes out of an Adelaide studio, and the brand's own story traces the color and shapes back to the 1960s, 70s and 90s, with custom prints, varied textures and handmade embellishments. Pearce talks about bold prints and bright colors as signatures and about resisting the pressure to follow trends. In 2023 she opened a first store on Rundle Street, a full-circle moment after helping open a Sass & Bide shop on the same street in 2009.
What I find compelling is the mix of faraway mood and practical dressing: a dress for a long lunch, a denim piece for the rest of the week, and a bag with enough personality to carry the outfit.

Dresses for the trip from day to dinner
The dresses are where the color and vintage-minded shapes become easiest to wear. The Palma Mini Dress sets a playful tone, while the Soraya Maxi Dress and Leona Maxi Dress carry the same sense of movement at longer lengths. The Naia Crochet Maxi Dress makes the open stitch part of the outfit, and the Wynn Denim Mini Dress is a welcome change when a print feels like too much.
Picture her arriving for a late lunch in the Soraya, then throwing a light overshirt over it when the sun drops. I would keep the shoes simple with a patterned hem, and hold the length up against your own shoes before choosing between mini, midi and maxi.

Tops that make a simple outfit feel considered
These are not just supporting pieces around a dress. The Sutton Knit Blouse in chocolate zebra brings the print up close, and the Amana Denim Vest or Amana Denim Shirt can ground that pattern when worn with a straight jean. Estela Bustier is the closer-fitting one, and I would balance its shape with a fuller trouser or relaxed jacket instead of adding another loud print.
In my fashion dreams she wears the Sutton Knit Blouse with dark denim and a small bag for a casual dinner that turns into drinks. My practical note: when a top is patterned or fitted, keep the other layer simple so the cut and the print both have room.

Bags, denim and one good finishing piece
The bags give the mix of color and utility a compact place to land. Kai Shoulder Bag in ivory and Alba Shoulder Bag in natural keep to an easy palette, while the Tierra Shoulder Bag in chocolate makes a stronger contrast with summer whites. I would carry any of them with the El Toro Jean and a crisp top, or let the Soraya Scarf add candy ombre color to a plain denim day.
The Amana Denim Flare Jean reads more dressed up than a basic straight leg, so a tucked-in top keeps the shape visible, and Amana Denim Short is the warm-weather alternative. What I would skip is matching every piece exactly. Let the bag or scarf set the palette and leave the rest alone.

The point is to wear something with a little story
The original pouch still holds the idea: make a piece unusual enough to start a conversation but wearable enough to leave the closet. I come back to The Wolf Gang for that balance of artful print, useful shapes and bags with personality. Adelaide is the home base of a label still growing out of Pearce's studio, with each collection allowed its own palette. I would start with a dress if I had a trip coming up, then let a good bag carry the quieter days at home. Although the trip may end up being the lunch down the road.
