Poster Girl designs dresses for a stage and a spotlight rather than for daylight, built from latex, cut-outs and extreme bodycon shapes in colors meant to read at distance. That performer-first approach is why the label found its early audience among musicians before fashion caught up to it. This edit moves through the brand's signature silhouettes, tracking which ones translate best from a stage to a night out.

The Poster Girl Dress Is Body Conscious Dressing With Wit
Built For A Stage
The London label launched in 2019 and found its audience almost entirely through performers, which shaped the product: latex, cut-outs, extreme bodycon and colours engineered for stage lighting rather than daylight. Designing for that context means prioritising how a garment reads at distance and under a spotlight, which is a different problem from how it reads across a table. The reference is 1990s club dressing and early 2000s pop styling, both of which were dismissed at the time and have since been thoroughly reassessed. The label was early to that reassessment. I went deeper on a related idea in CAKES Body and the Quiet Art of Dressing Without a Bra. I went deeper on a related idea in Maje Is French Girl Dressing Without The Cliche.

Latex, Visible And The Bandeau
The Visible dress appears in brown, black and red and is the label's signature cut, with the black being the most wearable. The Whistle latex midi dress in white and black, along with the Hollywood, Thorn and Annamaria latex dresses, are the most technically demanding pieces here and the clearest statement of what the label does. Aurora dress in cerulean and Calypso dress in ultra serpentine are the boldest colours among these poster girl dress options. Bloom bandeau dress in brown removes the straps entirely, and Tallulah dress in green is the most conventional shape in the group.

Pair it with
Dresses this considered need very little else, so the pairing here is a heel, a small bag and one pair of earrings. A leopard slingback or a patent platform sandal suits the club reference, and a metallic sandal works with the brighter colours. Keep the bag small, since a long strap cuts across a bodycon line.

Our honest take
Latex is a genuine commitment: it needs talc to get on, silicone to shine, and it will mark permanently from metal contact including jewellery and zips. Never store it touching another latex garment. Extreme bodycon shows the outline of everything underneath, which means seamless or nothing. Cut-outs move when you do and the ones at the waist are the least stable. Bright colours in stretch fabric lose saturation in sunlight. If you take one thing away, buy the latex only if you are willing to maintain it, because it is closer to owning a leather jacket than a dress.
