The Dolls House Dresses: A Guide to the Party Edit

The Dolls House Dresses: A Guide to the Party Edit

The Dolls House is a Manchester label for people who like being noticed, with silk, sequins and lace made for a good entrance. I admire how unapologetic it is, and this edit is for anyone with a party on the calendar.

A party label from Manchester

I will admit I did not expect my favorite party dresses to come from Manchester, a city I mostly think of for music and football. Rebecca Henry started The Dolls House there in 2012 with a made-to-order idea, and the clothes are still designed and made in-house, in silks, sequins and lace. That is the brand's most interesting promise to me, and it gives the label a local story that most eveningwear does not have. I went deeper on a related idea in Bridal After Party Outfits: Mini Dresses, Clutches and Platforms.

It is also a brand that likes ceremony. A fringed lime-green jumpsuit from the label was once worn by Rihanna at the VMAs, which tells you the register. The assortment moves from leopard and baroque prints to crystal-bright rompers, so I would not try to quiet it into basics. Pick one piece with a strong silhouette, give it room, and think about fit and where the embellishment will land.

Dresses made for an entrance

These dresses look made for entrances, not for the background. Cindy Dress in Leopard has an attached drape, so keep accessories clean and let that diagonal line work. Dolce Maxi Dress mixes a turquoise baroque print with lace accents, and it is partially lined and semi-sheer, so test the underlayer in daylight. Sira Mini Dress has a silver finish, Anna Mini Dress and Aurora Mini Dress go in an ivory direction, and Sira Maxi Dress and Sofia Maxi Dress bring the drama back to full length.

Picture her arriving at a summer wedding in a printed maxi with one sculptural earring, leaving the dress to carry the color. I would choose the silhouette first, then think about lining and comfort for the event itself.

A little more room to play

The rompers and separates give the glamour a more relaxed place to land. Nerissa Romper is covered in sequins in the Crystal Tide colorway and needs very little else. Rika Romper in Black is the cleaner counterpoint, and Petra Playsuit & Headscarf arrives as a coordinated idea from the start. Toni Micro Short, Shelby Short and Roma Short can carry a top you already own, Toni Bow Tie Shirt dresses it up, and Libbi Bodysuit is the quiet base.

In my fashion dreams she wears the Petra Playsuit & Headscarf with a strappy shoe and a small bag to a birthday dinner. What I would skip is stacking competing accessories on Nerissa Romper, because the sequins have already set the mood.

Let the detail do the talking

I admire the clarity here. The Dolls House does not ask occasionwear to disappear into the room, and its pieces are built for a look that feels considered, from a printed maxi to a sequined romper. Rebecca Henry's made-to-order beginnings still show in how seriously it takes the dress. Start with the event, choose a silhouette you can move in, then let the texture talk. Although I suspect the room will notice first.
