Sheer Edge

Pale, airy linen shirts and light trousers for men who want a softer, semi sheer way to dress. Wear them open over a tank or buttoned to the collar.

Sheer menswear is mostly about restraint. I like a shirt that lets a little light and a little skin through without announcing it, so I reach for thin linen in white, cream and pale blue and wear it open over a plain tank or tee.

 

The white linen from Gitman Vintage and Portuguese Flannel does this best, and the Orlebar Brown Giles is a crisp take for summer evenings. Polo Ralph Lauren makes a clean blue one that sits well over a white undershirt, and Faherty's basketweave has enough texture to stand on its own. Pair any of them with pleats in oat or white, like the Frescobol Carioca Oscar chinos, and let the sleeves roll. The less you fuss, the better it reads.
