Pura Utz

Pura Utz

Anna Waller Andrés from Denmark and Bernabela Sapalú from Santiago Atitlán, Guatemala, founded Pura Utz together, and the brand says it started in Bernabela's family home in 2018. The name means pure quality, pure good, and one beaded pouch takes two women three working days and 24,400 glass beads. This edit gathers the jewelry, clutches and pouches that come out of that workshop.

Brooches, earrings and necklaces

The jewelry is beaded one glass bead at a time, and the bolo ties and brooches here prove how playful that can get. Andrés has said the craft comes before the design, so each shape starts with what the women know how to make.

Clutches and pouches

Twenty-four thousand beads and three working days for one pouch is the number that stays with me. The floral and rope designs here are small works of patience you can carry on your arm.

Pure good

The name comes from Spanish for pure and the Mayan word utz, meaning good. It is a promise I like that a bag can make.
