Polished Workwear: Blazers, Blouses, And Trousers

Polished Workwear: Blazers, Blouses, And Trousers

Blazers, blouses and trousers that look sharp at the office without feeling stiff. It is for anyone who wants a work wardrobe built from pieces that mix and match.

For me polished workwear starts with trousers that fit properly, because everything else is easy after that. The Another Tomorrow pieces are the ones I would build around, and the Favorite Daughter Aspen suede skirt is my pick when I am bored of pants. I wear a crisp blouse tucked in, then throw an oversized blazer over the top and roll the sleeves. I went deeper on a related idea in Wide Leg Trousers Outfits for Fall: Polished, Not Oversized.

SOPHIEGRACE's Farrah flare in ivory looks sharp with a black top, and Reformation's satin pants dress up a plain white tee. If you want something that looks a step sharper on a Monday morning, try FRAME's palazzo cord pants with a fitted knit and a pair of pointed flats. Keep the colors quiet and let one piece, usually the blazer, do the talking.

The "Corporate Core" Refresh

The "Corporate Core" trend has completely hijacked our wardrobes, and that's not a complaint. This season is all about taking traditional 9-to-5 staples and pushing the proportions just far enough that they stop looking like a costume and start looking intentional. The hero piece is an oversized blazer that looks like you stole it from a 1980s Wall Street executive, but cut to actually drape. Throw it over a sheer organza blouse and some deeply pleated wide-leg trousers and suddenly you look like the CEO of your own life. A slim leather belt cinched at the waist is doing a lot of the heavy lifting here, and one chunky metallic earring keeps it from tipping into boardroom territory.
