Nikkie de Jager built Nimya from a makeup artist’s point of view

Nikkie de Jager, known online as NikkieTutorials, founded Nimya after more than 15 years in beauty. Her May 2015 “The Power of Makeup” post celebrates makeup as fun and pushes back on makeup shaming, a point of view I still love for its clarity.

Launched in 2021, Nimya pairs skin prep with colored cosmetics. I would start by laying a comfortable base, then let its palettes and lash styles pull focus.

Nikkie’s big-picture artistry shows up in color and finish

In 2019, Marc Jacobs Beauty named Nikkie its first global artistry advisor, with a role in product development and worldwide artistry content. That balance of technique and spectacle feels at home in Nimya’s skin prep and high-impact makeup.

She won the Shorty Awards’ YouTube Guru category in 2017 and presented Eurovision in 2021. Nimya’s own lookbooks move from soft shimmer to graphic eyes and holiday glam, a wonderfully specific place to begin for the season.

Where I would start with Nikkie de Jager’s makeup

I would begin with a pressed-pigment palette, one lash shape and a skin-prep step that feels good under makeup. Then I would choose one cheek or lip finish rather than trying to do every effect at once. For a night-out look, the graphic eye is the detail I would carry through.
