Monica Rose Stylist: Dramatic Coats, Leather and Off-Duty Details

How the Los Angeles stylist built a recognizable wardrobe, plus fall and winter pieces from designers linked to her work.

A guide to Monica Rose’s signature coats, leather layers, tailoring, sneakers and Sarah Chloe jewelry collaboration, with 32 fall and winter pieces.

Monica Rose style starts with a dramatic coat

Los Angeles stylist Monica Rose began styling in 2003 after years in retail. Harper’s Bazaar linked her recognizable wardrobe language to monochrome neutrals, dramatic coats, cropped tops, leather and suede, and delicate jewelry; the same profile named Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian and Kylie Jenner among her clients.

Rose has said The Row would be her one-designer wardrobe and named her black motorcycle jacket as an essential. This edit starts with long outerwear and leather, drawing on The Row and Balmain look credits, her Yves Salomon outerwear look and the IRO designs she identified as a go-to label.

The fit lesson behind Monica Rose’s off-duty looks

Rose told Harper’s Bazaar she takes garments in at the waist and uses a tailor to perfect a look. That attention to fit sits alongside a wardrobe she described through vintage denim, a leather jacket and a statement coat.

For shoes, she told POPSUGAR that she styled clients in sneakers for travel and paired her own Air Jordan 1s with a white shirt and belted trousers. Here I’m pairing boots and current trainers with the same tailored, off-duty logic; these retailer picks are references, not claims that they are her exact client looks.

Where I would start with Monica Rose’s style

I would start with The Row’s long coat and one clean leather layer. Then I would give the trouser hem a fitting and let a sneaker show. The lesson I take from Rose is to give fit the same attention as the clothes.
