Lush Super Milk went from a bottle on a shop shelf to a social media favorite, and it is really just a very good conditioning primer. Here are the hair milks and creams that work the same way, the detangling sprays for knotty mornings, and the hair perfumes that finish it all.

Lush Super Milk and the Case for the Leave-In That Goes on First
Lush was founded on 17 June 1994 by Mark and Mo Constantine with Liz Weir, Rowena Bird, Helen Ambrosen, Karl Bygrave and Paul Greeves, and its headquarters is still in Poole, England. The first shop opened on the High Street there in 1995, making cosmetics from freshly purchased fruits and vegetables. That fresh, slightly kitchen-counter attitude is the reason I trust the brand to make a hair product that is a little unusual.
Lush Super Milk is that product. It is a conditioning hair primer that went viral on social media, with more than 575,000 bottles sold in a single year. In June 2025 it was paired with Snow Fairy, which was invented in 2005, in a collection called Super Fairy. I think of it as the step before styling, something you work through damp lengths so hair feels softer and easier to comb before you blow-dry.
The rest of the grid follows the same idea in different textures. JVN's Complete Blowout Styling Milk is made for smooth blow-dries, and Crown Affair's Leave-In Conditioner Cream is a soft, simple one for hydrated hair. OUAI's North Bondi leave-in conditions, detangles and fights frizz, Oribe's Supershine Moisturizing Leave-In Cream is the richer choice for dry hair, and Gisou's Honey Milk is a 5-in-1 styling cream.
Use a small amount from mid-length to ends, comb through, and then style as usual. If your hair is fine, start with half a pump and build up, because a primer that is too generous can leave strands limp. Thick or curly hair usually asks for double.

Sprays for knots and tangles
Some mornings hair has other plans. A knot behind the ear, a tangle from sleeping on it wet, the back that never quite combs through. A spray is the quick answer, because it goes on light and does not weigh anything down.
OUAI's St. Barts leave-in is the sister to the North Bondi cream, in a spray format that conditions, detangles and calms frizz. Living Proof's Leave-In Conditioner and Detangler Spray is one of the lightest here, good for fine hair that is easily overwhelmed. BondiBoost's Strawberry Gum Miracle Mist is both a leave-in and a heat protectant, which makes it a sensible step before any hot tool. Ebb Ocean Club's Instant Slip and Shine leave-in is what I would reach for on very tangled hair, since the name says exactly what it does.
Drybar's Prep Rally is a prime and prep detangler, made to sit under a blow-dry. Evereden's Kids and Teen 4-in-1 spray is made for younger hair, and it is the one I would keep in a school bag or a travel kit for someone who hates being combed.
Start combing from the ends and work upward, holding the hair above the knot so you do not pull at the roots. Spray a little at a time. Three light passes work better than one drenching. Kids in particular tolerate the process far better when the spray is cold and quick and you let them hold the bottle.

Scent for your hair
Hair holds scent beautifully, and that is the fun part of the routine. A hair perfume is the last step, a light mist that follows you around when you move your head.
Sol de Janeiro's Cheirosa 71 is a hair and body mist, and it is the sweetest and most cheerful of the group. Gisou's Wildflower Honey Infused Hair Perfume is a softer, honeyed option made for hair alone. Emi Jay's Aura mist in Angel Wings is built around amber and light musk. Kérastase's Gloss Absolu Hair Perfume brings citrus, vanilla and rose together, and it is a good one for a night out. Josie Maran's Vanilla mist is a hair and body mist made with natural scents, and L'Occitane's Almond mist is the gentlest, with a soft sweetness you barely notice until someone leans in. Scent behaves differently on every head of hair, so try each one on a clean, dry day before you wear it somewhere important.
What I would skip: spraying a fragrance mist close to the scalp, or on hair you have just coated with a lot of leave-in, where it can turn heavy. I would also skip layering two very sweet scents. Hold the bottle at arm's length, mist the mid-lengths and ends once or twice, and let it settle before you touch your hair. A hair perfume also freshens a ponytail or a braid between washes, which is where it earns its place in my bag.

How I layer the whole thing
My order is simple: leave-in on damp hair, spray only where there are knots, dry, style, then one light mist of scent at the end. That is four steps at most, and on lazy days it is two.
Look at your hair after it dries. If it feels weighed down, use less of the cream or swap it for a spray. If it still tangles, add a little more at the ends. Keep the scent mist for the finish only, and let a fresh wash of your hair, not more perfume, do the work on the following days. If a product ever makes your scalp itch or sting, stop using it, and see a doctor if it does not settle. Otherwise, take a week to learn how much each step really matters for your hair type, then drop whichever one you never notice. If you want to keep browsing, I also put together Blue Almond Nails, From Blueberry Milk to Navy Chrome and Milk Blush.
