Karla Welch Stylist: Fall Denim and Modern Tailoring to Shop

Build a fall and winter wardrobe around the shapes Karla Welch loves: sharp suiting, characterful denim, substantial outerwear and cashmere layers.

Shop a fall edit inspired by Karla Welch’s styling work: modern tailoring, designer denim, substantial coats and cashmere knitwear.

Karla Welch’s styling starts with the person

Karla Welch is a Los Angeles based fashion stylist and creative consultant whose work includes editorials in Vogue and advertising campaigns for Loewe, Tiffany & Co. and Levi’s. Her clients include Justin Bieber, Sarah Paulson and Tessa Thompson, and The Hollywood Reporter and The New York Times have both named her among the most powerful stylists.

What I love is that a sharp look still leaves room for the person wearing it. Welch grew up working in her father’s menswear store and has said she chooses clients by inspiration, not a fixed type. This edit follows that instinct with defined jackets, considered denim and warm layers with shape.

Her denim story is personal, and the details stay individual

Welch’s denim story began with Justin Bieber’s request for longer white T-shirts, which she remade by hand. The xKarla and Hanes collection followed with seven T-shirt styles, then she put her spin on Levi’s 501s through wide leg, pleated and jacket shapes.

At the 2026 Met Gala, she styled six clients, including Sarah Paulson and Tessa Thompson. She has described her approach as honoring the designer’s point of view while keeping the look true to the person, and that is the balance behind these tailoring, outerwear and knitwear picks.

Where I would start with Karla Welch’s style

I would start with a blazer that feels precise rather than stiff and a pair of jeans with enough shape to stand on their own. Add one substantial coat or a soft cashmere knit for the months ahead. Leave the rest easy so the person stays visible.
