What Joanna Gaines brings to the Magnolia home collection

Joanna Gaines is Magnolia’s co-owner and co-founder, editor in chief of Magnolia Journal, and a New York Times bestselling author. Born in Kansas and raised in Texas, she graduated from Baylor with a communications degree and reached a national audience through Fixer Upper.

Magnolia began as a 1,800-square-foot home decor shop in 2003 and now spans furniture, decor, apparel, a magazine, and a television network. That range feels distinctly Jo to me: home is not a showroom but a place for people, meals, and stories to collect.

Joanna’s holiday rooms make sentiment part of the decor

In her holiday farmhouse tour, Jo keeps the sitting area neutral and layers in a tree, mercury ornaments, old books under a cloche, and staircase garland tied with velvet ribbon. Dried oranges and greenery carry the story to her mantel, while a wreath and miniature tree lend the window table a quieter note.

The fall 2026 issue of Magnolia Journal takes up Joanna’s idea of letting after-dinner hours run on, with a progressive dinner, garden perennials, and slow-cooked meals. I love that same ease in this mix, where tactile pillows and throws meet nostalgic tree ornaments, heirloom tabletop, and small display pieces.

Where I would start with Joanna Gaines’s home style

I would begin with the Settle In Plaid Throw and a Hand-Painted Glass Ornament, then let the rest of the room grow around them. A few meaningful objects, layered light, and a table ready for company feel truer to Joanna’s design story than a room finished all at once. That is the Magnolia mood I would bring home for the colder months.
