Indie venue energy is what I wear when the plan is a small room, a good band and no need to look finished. I want the outfit slightly undone, with a soft print, a little lace or a jacket that looks lived in, and boots I can stand in for three hours.

 

For dresses I like the earthy end of the palette. Hemant and Nandita make a ruffled mini in olive and another in burgundy that both look great with tall boots, and the Retrofête lace dress is the one I would wear when I want to be a little dramatic. Reformation's silk twill dress in a green check is easy to throw a denim shirt over. If you would rather dress down, pair the Frank & Eileen denim shirt or a striped Clare V. tee with jeans, then add the Chan Luu necklace and the fringed Steve Madden boots to finish it.
