HAELO Dresses: Lace, Drama and Sharp Lines

HAELO Dresses: Lace, Drama and Sharp Lines

HAELO is Dion Lee's new Los Angeles label, with dresses that mix sharp lines, lace and a gothic angel mood. I like how it softens a very exact designer without sanding off his edge.

A new label from Dion Lee

I am always curious what a designer does when he starts over, and HAELO is Dion Lee's answer. The label arrived in Los Angeles in November 2025 with Lee at the creative helm, and he wanted to step away from putting his own name at the center. Instead of a rerun, he built a new identity from its first product through the way it speaks. The about page puts the design codes plainly: a softer, more sensual reading of his technical language, with angelic and gothic references carried through lace, corsetry, sharp tailoring, leather and sculptural forms.

The contrast is the thing I keep noticing, a cut that feels exact against a fabric that moves or shows skin. The first collection kept his cutouts and sharp lines and added draped silk and lace, and Blackpink's Lisa wore a look onstage in Jakarta just before launch. To me this is not a generic black party edit. It is an attempt to soften a technical signature without losing its edge, with European textiles and manufacturing behind it. If you want to keep going, Carine Gilson Dresses: Lace Incrustation on Silk Satin is the one I would read next.

Dresses between structure and softness

The dresses show HAELO's tension most clearly. The Metallic Slip Dress reads as a clean, liquid line, while the Laced Chevron Layered Mini Dress adds pattern and stacked texture. The Inverted Lace Mini brings the lingerie note closer to the surface, and the Shadow Lace Mini Dress makes lace the whole point. I would look at the Gradient Studded Mini Dress for a hard edge, or the Asymmetric Cowl Mini Dress when the neckline should lead. I went deeper on a related idea in Best Lace Dresses.

Picture her arriving after dark in the Metallic Slip Dress under a sharp coat, then leaving the coat behind when the room warms up. That contrast feels close to Lee's idea of technical lines meeting softer material.

My practical tip is to plan the underlayers before the event, especially with the lace styles, and to give a detailed neckline a quiet pair of shoes.

Tops that make the silhouette

The tops have a strong point of view even before a jacket gets involved. The Split Bandana Top and Laced Chevron Halter Top use tied and halter shapes, while the Zip Corset Tank gives the group a more constructed center. The Knotted LS Top brings a long sleeve and a gathered front. I like this mix because each piece changes the outline of a skirt or trouser without a complicated styling trick.

In my fashion dreams, she wears the Zip Corset Tank with a long, straight trouser and keeps the rest spare. The Laced Chevron Halter Top is my pick for an evening plan, and the Knotted LS Top is the cleaner daytime layer.

I would try them on with the neckline and waist in mind, since a close corset shape and a tied halter never sit the same way.

Pants with a change of texture

This is not a trouser group that stays in one mood. The Archangel Track Pant has a sport reference, the Wave Lace Legging brings the sheer, tactile side forward, and the Straight Leg Cargo Pant adds some utility. The Straight Leg Trouser is the quieter option when I want the top or jacket to do more. It mirrors the label's bigger idea: keep a precise shape, then shift the mood with material.

Picture her going from a daytime appointment to a late meal in the Straight Leg Cargo Pant, a fitted top and one clean jacket.

What I would skip is wearing the Wave Lace Legging as an afterthought. I would treat it as the feature and give it a longer or more structured layer on top.

Outer layers and one sharp skirt

The last group moves from sporty to sculptural. The Sport Zip Up Jacket is the practical layer, and the Archangel Track Jacket is its matching partner for the track pants. The Coil Boned Jacket is the constructed one, while the Belted Wrap Skirt puts the focus on a defined waist. I like how these keep the brand's mix of precision and sensuality from stopping at dresses.

For a night out, I would try the Belted Wrap Skirt with a spare top and the Coil Boned Jacket open over it, so the proportions stay visible. The Sport Zip Up Jacket is the one I would reach for when the outfit needs to relax. Check where the jacket hem lands against the skirt, because that one small decision changes the whole line.

A new language from the same hand

HAELO feels like a new beginning with an identifiable hand behind it. Dion Lee's technical eye is still there, but the lace, the drape and the angelic-gothic mood give the clothes a softer register.

I like that the idea can move from a fitted tank to a dress to a sharply cut jacket without losing focus. If dark romance with clean construction is your thing, this is a label worth following as it grows. Although I will admit I am here mostly for the lace.
