For Love & Lemons is the Los Angeles label of romantic lace, slips and lingerie that two childhood friends built from a lemonade stand. I like how it leaves you to decide how much romance to wear, from a hint at the neckline to a full evening dress.

For Love & Lemons Dresses: Is It Worth It?
The friendship behind For Love & Lemons
I am a sucker for a brand with a lemonade stand in its origin story, and For Love & Lemons has one. Laura Hall and Gillian Rose Kern met as kids in Wyoming, and the label grew out of that friendship, with the two of them starting in a garage and staying involved in every decision. Their own About page describes a project centered on feminine self-expression, imaginative dresses and lingerie, and thoughtful craft.
It grew into a Los Angeles business where romance is built through details, not just silhouette. Lace, scalloped edges and ruffles run from the lingerie into the swim and everything else. Early on, the Lulu Dress became a bestseller after celebrities began wearing it, which sounds about right for something this pretty. What I see in this edit is slips, bustiers, shorts and lingerie that let a woman choose how much of the romance she wants to show.

Slips and minis for the main event
I would read the dresses by mood before anything else. The Glitter Slip Dress in gold is the clearest evening piece, the Opal Mini Dress in red gives a short hem a bold color, and the Venetia Slip Dress in vintage cream is softer and more intimate. The Samira Mini Dress, the Heirloom Petal Slip Dress, the Candice Mini Dress and the Bustier Gown fill in the rest of the romantic range. I went deeper on a related idea in A.L.C. Dresses: Is the Sabine Gown Worth It?. I went deeper on a related idea in AMOR MIA Dresses: What's Worth Your Money.
The founders built the label around pretty details, and these silhouettes interpret that without treating every invitation like a formal event. Picture her going from a late dinner to the bar in the Glitter Slip Dress, a low heel and simple jewelry. A slip looks more polished with a clean base layer, and a bright mini works best when the accessories stay quiet. What I would skip: a statement necklace on anything with this much sparkle.

Tops with detail at the neckline
The Carmella Top in vintage cream and the Luna Top in brown show how color can change the same romantic mood, and the Ambre Top in white is the lightest of the three. I would keep the bottom half simple with any of them so the neckline and trim get their moment. The Eyelet Rose Bustier is the one with a more defined shape, and it can carry an outfit with a straight trouser or a long skirt. In my fashion dreams, she wears the Luna Top with denim to an outdoor dinner, then adds a small bag and a heeled sandal. Let the bustier set the level of structure, and keep another fitted layer off it.

Shorts for plans and downtime
The Carmella Shorts in vintage cream read like a dressed-up short, and the Selena Short in burgundy brings a deeper color. The Jia Sleep Short in white sounds built for a slow morning, while the Luna Shorts in brown can move toward dinner with a button-front top or a fine knit.
The label's story is about clothes the women wanted for themselves, and I like shorts that still feel personal instead of sporty. Picture her in the Selena Short with a crisp white shirt, flats and a small woven bag for a long Saturday. My tip is to choose the rise around how you sit and walk, then decide whether the top should be cropped or tucked.

Lace pieces for the close layers
This is where For Love & Lemons takes romance somewhere more personal than occasion dressing. The Rosa Lace Scarf is the light accessory, the Chantilly Bows Underwire Bra in Tan speaks to the label's lingerie roots, and the Country Rose Lace Romper carries the same decorative mood into a one-piece look. The Corie Panty Pack is the small, practical way in. I would style the scarf over a simple knit and keep the lingerie for layering under an open shirt. The useful check is deciding where you want the lace to show: a peek at the neckline, or a fuller layer under a jacket.
Romance that stays personal
At its best, For Love & Lemons makes romance feel like a way of getting dressed, not a dress code. The same eye for lace and embroidery moves from a slip dress to lingerie, and turns up again in the Eyelet Rose Bustier. I think of Hall and Kern as designers who stayed close to their first curiosity: childhood friends with a lemonade stand, then a label built around clothes they wanted themselves. Although I suspect the lemonade stand never had this much lace.
