Face tape is older than TikTok, and it works the simple way: it holds skin still so lines look softer by morning. Here are the tapes and firming patches I would try, the eye patches for a puffy start, and the creams that keep skin comfortable the rest of the time.

Face Tape, Patches and the Other Tricks for a Smoother Face
Face tape feels like a TikTok invention, but the idea is much older. In 1889 a woman named Margaret Kroesen created paper facial patches to smooth frown lines overnight, and versions of those little patches have been sold ever since. The modern rolls and pre-cut strips work on the same principle. They hold the skin still, so you are not frowning or squinting into your pillow all night, and the creases you would normally wake up with look softer.
That is also the honest limit. Face tape does not rebuild anything. The effect is temporary, usually gone by lunch, and it works best on expression lines between the brows, across the forehead and at the corners of the eyes. Think of it like a hair roller for your face: very satisfying, not permanent.
Sephora Collection's Face Tape comes as 80 pre-cut strips, which makes it the easiest way to find out if you can sleep in it. Peter Thomas Roth's Peptide Skinjection tape is infused with peptides and made for both face and eyes, so it moisturizes while it holds. Peace Out's microneedling patches go a step further, with tiny dissolving points and retinol, and I save them for the frown line that has started to stay put during the day.
For the jaw and neck, the SCULPT-IT mask from Sephora Collection and StriVectin's Sculpting mask are hydrogel sheets you leave on for about twenty minutes, a quick tightening feel before a dinner. NuFACE's IonPlex patches are for under the eyes, with electrolytes and magnesium to brighten and firm the look of that thin, tired skin.

The ten minutes before coffee
Eye patches are the most rewarding ten minutes in skincare. You press them on, make coffee, answer two emails, and peel them off to a face that looks like it slept more than it did. The cooling alone does a lot for puffiness first thing.
Summer Fridays' Jet Lag patches are the hydrating, nonslip kind, which matters, because nothing is worse than a patch sliding down your cheek while you read the news. Rhode's Peptide Eye Prep patches are cooling hydrogel with peptides for puffiness and dark circles, and Topicals' Faded patches are made for discoloration, with a cool gel feel. Yepoda's Eyespresso patches come in a jar with caffeine and green tea, the ones I reach for after a late night.
For fine lines, Peter Thomas Roth's FIRMx patches are packed with collagen gel and give a tightened look after one use. Peace Out's 360 patches are biocellulose with retinol and peptides, and they cover the lids as well as the under eyes. Shiseido's Benefiance retinol masks are made to soften the look of wrinkles in fifteen minutes, a good trick before an event. Save the retinol ones for evening, or follow them with sunscreen.
Dieux's Forever Eye Mask is different from all of these. It is a reusable silicone patch you lay over your own eye cream or serum, so the product stays close to the skin instead of drying on the surface. It washes clean and lasts, which feels right for something you might use every single day.
Keep the gel patches in the fridge. Cold does half the depuffing for you.

The creams that do the daily work
Tape and patches are the fun part. The daily work happens in a good moisturizer, and the firming ones lean on peptides, short chains of amino acids that help skin look smoother and bouncier over time.
Drunk Elephant's Protini is the best known, with nine signal peptides in a light cream that suits most skin. Tatcha's Dewy Skin Cream is richer, made for normal to dry skin, and gives that plump, glowing finish the name promises. ALPYN's Super Peptide cream adds ceramides and ghostberry for a stressed barrier, and INNBEAUTY Project's Extreme Cream pairs peptides with ceramides and lipids for skin that feels tight and thin in winter.
Caudalie's Resveratrol-Lift cream is sold as a retinol alternative, useful if retinol makes your skin angry, and it has a soft cashmere texture. First Aid Beauty's Ultra Repair Firming Day Cream is simple and plumping, for normal to dry skin. Josie Maran's Firming Face Butter is whipped argan, soft and rich, the one I would use at night on the evenings I skip the tape.
In the morning, Dermalogica's Dynamic Skin Recovery is a firming moisturizer with SPF 50. Sun exposure is one of the biggest drivers of visible aging, so a moisturizer with real sunscreen in it will do more for lines over the years than anything else here. It is the least exciting product in this edit and the one I would never skip.

Set your expectations, then enjoy it
Put tape on clean, completely dry skin, never over moisturizer, or it will slide off by midnight. Smooth the skin gently with your fingers first, then lay the strip down without stretching it. In the morning, wet it before you peel it away, slowly, in the direction your skin naturally sits.
Skip it on irritated or broken skin, and give sensitive skin a night off between uses. If your skin turns red where the tape sat, stop for a while. The smoothing is real but short-lived, so use it for the mornings that matter, like a wedding, a big meeting or photos, and let your moisturizer and sunscreen handle every other day. If you want to keep browsing, I also put together CAKES Nipple Covers, Adhesive Bras and Tape for Backless Tops and Body Tape, From a Gaping Sweater to the Grammys Gown.
