Corpus is a California natural body care label built around scent that actually smells like something. J.P. Mastey started it in 2018, and I am a little obsessed with the idea that a deodorant can be a ritual.

Corpus Body Care: What I'd Actually Buy
The problem J.P. Mastey set out to solve
I did not think I had opinions about natural deodorant until I read how Corpus began. J.P. Mastey had more than two decades in skincare and grooming, and one practical doubt, which was whether a natural deodorant could feel as good as the products he already trusted. The idea sharpened around 2015, while he and his wife were preparing for their first child and he started reading ingredient panels more carefully. Natural options often fell short on scent, texture, looks or performance, so in 2018 he built Corpus around that missing middle. If you want to keep going, Aveeno, From a Bath of Oats in 1945 to the Body Care I Still Trust is the one I would read next.
He had spent years at Baxter of California, which he sold to L'Oréal in 2013, and Corpus shifted his focus to daily body care for anyone unwilling to trade quality for a natural formula. The fragrances are built like perfume, with top, middle and base notes instead of one essential oil, and they carry the feeling of the California he grew up around, from beaches to mountains to deserts. The result is quiet rather than loud: a lovely scent, a useful object, a small ritual. Their own story says it better than I can.

The scent language moves across formats
Corpus began with the everyday deodorant, and what keeps me curious is how the scents travel. The Santalum Natural Stick Deodorant and the Santalum Natural Body Wash share sandalwood, Texas cedarwood and amber, with the wash taking that warm wood into the shower. The Nº Green Natural Stick Deodorant leans toward bergamot, pink lemon and cardamom, and the Third Rose Natural Body Wash softens into rose, Italian mandarin and violet. The Amalgam 7 Aromatic Hand Wash brings pepper, coriander and a woody cedar base, the savory one for the sink.
Picture a bathroom shelf where every scent has its own lane instead of six fragrances arguing. I would start with one hero scent and echo it once, stick plus wash, before adding anything else. The Cypress Conditioner, the Neroli Natural Stick Deodorant and the California Natural Stick Deodorant are good second steps, and The Cassis Soy Wax Candle and the Dark Flowers Soy Wax Candle take the idea out of the bathroom entirely.

A small ritual with room to grow
What I like about Corpus is that it treats a bathroom shelf as a place for small rituals, not a display case. A deodorant has to work every day, and the careful scent and the packaging make that familiar act feel a bit more considered, which the wash, hair, hand and home pieces then follow. I would start with the Santalum stick if you like warm wood, or Nº Green if you reach for citrus, then decide if you want that scent in the shower too. What I would skip is buying a whole routine at once. Although I suspect the Nº Green Body Butter will be the second purchase. I went deeper on a related idea in Aesop Hand and Body Care: What to Buy First.
