Coach was founded in 1941, and its fragrance partner Interparfums describes it as the American leather goods brand known for quality craftsmanship. The perfume came later. Coach and Interparfums signed an 11-year exclusive worldwide license in April 2015, and distribution was expected to start in the fall of 2016. Coach Wild Rose arrived in 2022, and Interparfums' annual report calls it delicate and poetic, drawn from the free-spirited beauty of a meadow of wild flowers.

If you are searching coach wild rose, you are probably trying to work out whether it is a true rose or a fruity one. The description leans fruity first. Juicy redcurrant and bergamot open to rose and jasmine sambac, then crystal moss and ambroxan sit underneath. I read that as a rose for people who find classic rose a little formal, sunny and slightly green instead of powdery.

The odd one out is Marc Jacobs Beauty Perfect Eau de Parfum with Daffodil & Musk. It is a warm floral with tangy rhubarb on top, softened by almond milk, cedarwood and cashmeran. If Wild Rose feels too green for you, this is the creamier direction.

What I would skip: Coach Cherry Parfum if you are here for rose. It is a fruity-gourmand, and rose is not the story.

Chloé Eau de Parfum with Rose & Amber is the powdery, classic option, with peony, rose, honey and cedarwood. It is the one I would hand to someone who wants rose to smell familiar. Lancôme Idôle Eau de Parfum mixes citrus, rose, jasmine and white musk over a vanilla base, and the listing notes Allure Best of Beauty wins in 2020 and 2022. My Burberry Blush Eau de Parfum is the lighter, fruitier rose, with pomegranate and jasmine in a London garden mood.

For musk and softness, Phlur Rose Whip Eau de Parfum pairs velvety rose and black currant with honeyed osmanthus over amber and cashmere wood. TOM FORD Rose Prick Eau de Parfum is the sharp one. Bulgarian rose and rose de mai are pierced with Sichuan pepper, with roasted tonka and patchouli below, and it is listed as unisex. TOM FORD Lost Cherry Eau de Parfum goes dark and sweet, black cherry and almond giving way to Turkish rose and jasmine sambac.

What I would skip: Lost Cherry for a light daytime rose. It is full-bodied and candy-bright, better for evenings.

I think the real question with a rose perfume is what surrounds the rose. Coach Wild Rose wraps it in redcurrant and moss, which makes it easy and outdoorsy. Chloé and Prada keep it classic and clean, and TOM FORD Rose Prick makes it thorny.
