Closed is the Hamburg denim label with the X-pocket jean at its center, made with Italian denim since the beginning. I keep reaching for it when I want jeans with a bit of design history, and this edit is my fit guide.

CLOSED Jeans: Finding Your Best X-Pocket Fit
The Hamburg label that takes denim seriously
I have a theory that the best jeans are the ones with a small story attached, and Closed has a good one. The label started in Hamburg in 1978 with French designers Marithé and François Girbaud, and François drew the signature X-pocket jeans in 1981. The denim has been made in Italy since the start, which gives even a very ordinary pair a sense of where it came from. I went deeper on a related idea in Abrand Jeans: Finding a Pair That Fits.
The craft carries into the present. The jeans are handmade in Italy with long-standing local partners, and A BETTER BLUE, developed with Italian denim partners and dating to 2018, is the line that works on materials, dyeing and washes to lower the impact. My eye keeps drifting past the denim to the sharper jackets, soft knits and easy shirts that sit beside it, which is how a good jeans brand ends up running your whole week.

Jeans with a recognizable angle
Denim is where I start, because Closed has kept its jeans in conversation with Italian making for decades. The Tali-x Jeans and the Tori-x Jeans feel like the straight-ahead way into the label, while the Tori-x Wide Leg Jeans and the Weston Wide Leg Jeans bring an easier, wider line. The Jovanna Bootcut Jeans give me a cleaner flare at the hem, and the Flared Linen Pants are the softer, warm-weather cousin.
Picture her in the Weston Wide Leg Jeans with a compact tee and a roomy shirt, out for a long Saturday of errands before dinner with friends. When I choose a hem, I think about the shoes first: a flat keeps the volume casual, and a little heel gives the longer shapes more room. The right pair should feel good sitting down, not only in front of a mirror.

Easy layers beyond denim
Beyond jeans, Closed keeps the same thoughtful proportions in pieces that layer without making an outfit feel overworked. I would wear the Organic Seaming Shirt open over a tee with high-rise jeans, and the Cropped Oversized Shirt can balance a longer trouser. The Cropped Zip Cardigan and the Zipped Cardigan are two different takes on an everyday knit, and the Cropped Boxy Tee Shirt is the easy base under both.
Picture the Gathered Skirt with a crisp shirt and flat shoes for a simple office-to-evening plan, or the Draped Mini Skirt with the Cropped Zip Cardigan on a day I want something more playful. What I would skip is piling accessories onto a skirt that already moves. Let the cardigan set the proportion and keep everything else quiet.

Denim, with room around it
Closed appeals to me because it treats denim as a real point of view, not one product category among many. The X-pocket story is a small piece of design history, and A BETTER BLUE gives the label a concrete way to think about materials. I would build around one pair of jeans first, then let a crisp shirt or soft knit change the mood. That is how I want everyday clothes to work: a little history, a good cut and enough room to keep wearing them. Although I will admit I still want a second pair.
