A centella ampoule is a light serum built around one calming plant, and SKIN1004's Madagascar version is the one most people mean. Here is how the line fits together, what the brand claims, and the cica serums, creams and toners I would layer beside it.

Centella Ampoule: SKIN1004 Madagascar, Plus Cica Serums, Creams And Toners
The plant elephants were said to eat
HerbalGram, the journal of the American Botanical Council, tells a lovely story about gotu kola, the plant we now call centella. In Sri Lanka, people noticed that elephants, famous for living long lives, ate it. So they began eating a few of its leaves every day, hoping for the same. The same profile notes it in the Chinese Shennong Herbal, from around the first or second century, and says French medicine accepted it as a drug in the 1880s. A small green leaf, a very long paper trail.
That is the plant inside a centella ampoule, and I think the reason this format took off is that it is so undemanding. SKIN1004's Madagascar Centella Ampoule is the one people usually mean, and its ingredient list is short, one version on the brand's page lists seven ingredients, starting with water and glycerin and centella asiatica extract. The brand says the plant is grown around 700 meters up in volcanic soil, hand-harvested, and holds seven times more soothing actives than other centella, which is a brand claim. The name is a small Korean pun: 1004 is read as cheonsa, or angel. The company says it now sells in more than 120 countries and opened a flagship on Broadway in New York in July 2026.
The trick is to build around the ampoule instead of adding to it. The first grid is the SKIN1004 line, all Madagascar Centella. The Teca Ampoule adds TECA, one of the brand's key actives. The Hyalu-Cica Blue Serum pairs hyaluronic-style hydration with cica, judging by the name. The Soothing Cream is the moisturizer that follows, and the Toning Toner and Probio-Cica Essence Toner start the routine. The Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum has SPF 50, and the Light Cleansing Oil ends the day.

Cica and centella serums from other brands
One rule for a soothing serum: patch test it on your jaw for three nights before it goes on your whole face. Calming does not mean it cannot irritate, and NIH's LiverTox notes that allergic reactions to topical centella, while rare, do happen.
Centella is called cica in Europe and centella or tiger grass in Asia, and this grid shows both accents. AESTURA's A-CICA365 Soothing Redness Relief Serum is the redness one. FATION's Rapid Calming Barrier Serum has 46% fresh cica on the label, plus panthenol and allantoin. celimax's The Real Cica Niacinamide AC Calming Serum is for blemish-prone skin that also gets angry. Torriden's BALANCEFUL 5D Cica Complex is a redness reducer. Avène's Cicalfate+ Intensive Skin Restorative Serum is the French pharmacy's take, and INNBEAUTY PROJECT's Calm The Red Down is a dual serum that corrects color as it calms.
Purito Seoul's Wonder Releaf Centella Serum is the plainest one here. Its own ingredient list puts the centella extract at 34,860 ppm, about 3.5 percent, which I prefer to a bold number on a bottle. Venn's Probiotics Cica Complex Biome Booster brings probiotics into the mix.
A pairing I like: a toner pad, one of these serums, then a plain cream. Nothing in that routine argues with anything else.
What I would skip: layering three cica serums at once. Choose one, and give it a full month.

Cica creams that calm and cushion
Start with a rule for creams: apply while your skin is still slightly damp, ideally a minute after the serum. A calming cream does its best work sealing in what you have already put on.
The centella cream shelf is deep, and I would sort it by texture. make p:rem's Inteca Advanced CICA Soothing Cream and Torriden's BALANCEFUL 5D Cica Soothing Cream are the classic cushiony ones. HEVEBLUE's Salmon Caring Centella Cream brings in salmon PDRN, a newer ingredient in this category. THOME's PPM 30,000 Triple-Synergy Relief Cream has a name that reads like a lab report. Anua's Azelaic Acid Cica Skin Soothing Moisturizer is for redness-prone skin, and celimax's The Real Cica Soothing Cream is a straightforward daily one.
Dr. Jart+ makes two versions of Cicapair for redness, and the difference is texture. The Sensitive Skin Moisturizer is the richer cream. The Cooling Gel Moisturizer is the gel, and it is the one I would use in summer or over an oily T-zone.
For comparison, SKIN1004's own Madagascar Centella Soothing Cream, from the first grid, is described by the DermApproved site as 72% centella and launched in 2021. That is a lot of leaf, and a good benchmark for any cream you are shopping.
What I would skip: a thick cushion cream in a hot, humid week. Switch to the gel, or use less.

Calming toners and soothing pads
Try this: keep your pads in the refrigerator door and use one on a day your skin feels warm. It is a small habit, and the cold does part of the calming.
Toners are where centella shares the shelf with heartleaf, a different soothing plant. Anua's Heartleaf 77 Soothing Toner and the Heartleaf 77 Clear Pad are the pair I would compare, a liquid and a pad from the same line. Abib's Heartleaf Essence Pad is another one aimed at instant soothing and skin cooling. HEVEBLUE's Salmon Caring Centella Toner brings madecassoside, one of centella's main compounds, to the toner step.
COSRX's One Step Original Clear Skin Calming Pad is a classic pad for people who want one step, and its 5 PDRN B5 Vital Soothing Toner has hyaluronic acid and allantoin. Dermalogica's Ultracalming Mist Toner is a mist, useful over makeup, and AESTURA's ATOBARRIER365 Hydrating and Lightweight Capsule Toner is a light, hydrating one for dry skin.
A pairing I like: heartleaf pad in the morning, centella ampoule at night. Two plants, two times of day, one calm face.
What I would skip: rubbing a pad hard across your face. Press and swipe once, as if you were cleaning a camera lens.

The bottle I would buy first
I think a centella ampoule is the most useful thing you can add if your skin is easily annoyed, and I say that knowing the science is still modest. A 2026 review says clinical evidence is limited, with small, short trials, so I treat centella as a comfort, not a cure.
So I would start with SKIN1004's ampoule, add a cream from this edit, and leave the rest until your skin asks, one product at a time. Elephants got the leaves, and a long life was the hope. You get a dropper, which is neater, and a calmer face is the goal. If you want to keep browsing, I also put together cocokind Ceramide Barrier Serum and the Barrier Serums and Creams Beside It and Collagen Cream, Peptide Serums and Firming Eye Creams I Would Start With.
