MFPEN
Copenhagen label mfpen was founded by Sigurd Bank in the mid-2010s. Bank began working with deadstock fabrics because they were available, then turned that practical choice into a broader design language of relaxed tailoring and classic menswear references. The clothes feel considered without sounding like they are asking for attention.

La DoubleJ
La DoubleJ began in 2015 as J.J. Martin’s shoppable magazine for vintage clothing and the women shaping Milan’s creative life. By 2017 it had expanded into original fashion and homeware built around Italian craftsmanship, saturated color and a very serious appetite for pattern. The edit is happiest when the print is allowed to be the architecture.

Andres Otalora
Andrés Otálora runs his house out of Cali, where the clothes are made by hand by an atelier of more than fifty women, each of them the head of a family. He came to design sideways, having trained and worked as a business administrator first.

Róhe
Róhe is named after the Norwegian word for calm and operates out of a seventeenth century canal palace on Amsterdam's Golden Bend. Marieke Meulendijks and Maickel Weyers, a couple who met in a bar in a southern Dutch village in 2000, founded it in 2021 after she had spent years carrying the idea around. It has since become the label people reach for when they have exhausted the obvious quiet luxury options.

Anna Sui
Anna Sui makes fashion from the collision of vintage references, rock and roll, bohemia and New York downtown energy. She launched her first collection in 1981 after studying at Parsons and has spent decades turning research into clothes that feel exuberant but carefully composed. The current pieces keep that spirit in satin, velvet, lace, fur textures and unapologetic print.

ALIX OF BOHEMIA
Alix of Bohemia is known for making clothes that feel found, travelled and made by hand, with fruit prints, stripes, appliqué and natural fibres shaping a distinctly romantic wardrobe. Founder Alix Verley Pietrafesa began sewing while studying art history in Scotland and later built the label from thousands of bespoke pieces. The mood is bohemian without being careless, because every eccentric detail has a textile logic behind it.

Comme Si
Jenni Lee started Comme Si in New York in 2019 after leaving her marketing job at the shaving startup Harry's, unable to find a sock she considered both beautiful and responsibly made. The label is built on that one overlooked category: Italian-milled cotton, merino, cashmere and silk socks finished with a loop tab that regular wearers learned to spot on each other, a foundation the brand has since built out into all of the categories

ALÉMAIS
Lesleigh Jermanus spent about sixteen years designing for Australian labels including Marcs, Nicholas and Zimmermann, was made redundant in March 2020 as the industry shut down, and started ALÉMAIS at her kitchen table that August with her husband Chris Buchanan. The label is built on prints, embroidery and a different artist collaboration every season.

What to Wear to a Casual Thanksgiving
Comfortable Thanksgiving dressing with the polish left intact, built around soft layers, easy trousers and shoes you can keep on through a long afternoon.

Best Longline Skirts
The best longline skirts create a column without asking you to dress like a statue. I like them because they make a simple top look considered, but only when the length is balanced by an easy shoe and a waist that stays put. My practical rule is to choose one of three directions:

Sandro: The Paris Uniform
Blazer, boot, bag: the three-piece formula.

Affordable Tops Edit
An affordable tops edit should answer one practical question: which tops can carry an outfit without making the trousers, shoes, and jewellery work overtime. I look for a clear shape, a neckline that sits properly, and a price that still leaves room for the rest of the wardrobe.

Sizing Up, On Purpose
Buying a size up is not about hiding, it is about how a garment falls and how much air sits between the cloth and you. Below, shirts, knitwear and jackets where the larger size is the better buy, and the specific places where it is the wrong call.

How To Stop Chasing Trends
Chasing trends is expensive, and the reason it never satisfies is structural rather than moral: a trend is designed to expire. Below, the three categories worth buying on a slower clock, with what to check on each before you spend: trousers, knitwear and leather bags.

Clothes That Age Well
Some garments look better after three years and some look finished after three washes, and the difference is mostly fibre and construction rather than price. Below, wool and cashmere, silk and cotton and linen, and leather and suede, with how each one ages and what it needs.

Fall Trends 2026
Fall trends are easiest to live with when they arrive as useful materials rather than costume. Suede and leather have presence, but a jacket or bag should still work with the trousers, denim and knitwear already in rotation.

Plain Basics Worth Owning Twice
Should you buy two of the same basic? Often, yes, if the item solves a recurring problem and you will wear it in more than one setting.

The Shorts Edit
The Shorts Edit is about finding a short that behaves like a real part of a wardrobe, not a dare. I am looking for proportion, a useful rise, and enough structure to make the outfit feel intentional. Shorts are easy to get wrong because the category invites extremes: too tiny to

Affordable Trousers Edit
Affordable Trousers Edit is about making a pair of trousers earn its place without treating a low price as a personality. The useful pair is the one that gives you a clear silhouette, a comfortable fastening, and enough range to work beyond one photograph. Trousers tend to fail i

Affordable Loungewear Edit
Affordable Loungewear Edit is about clothes that make staying in feel intentional without turning the house into a costume department. The best loungewear is soft enough to live in, presentable enough for an unexpected doorbell, and simple enough that every piece can leave the so

Affordable Skirts Edit
The affordable skirts edit is about buying the shape you will actually wear, not collecting a row of hopeful separates. I want a skirt to earn its place by working with at least three tops and one pair of shoes I already own. The rule I use is to choose the length first, then dec

Best Designer Gowns
Best designer gowns are not simply the most dramatic dresses in the room. They are the ones with a clear proposition, a shape that does the work, and enough restraint that you can wear them without feeling dressed by committee. I look for a long line first, then a neckline I can
