By Rosie Jane Fragrance Sets: Where to Start

By Rosie Jane is the Los Angeles fragrance and body care line Rosie Johnston began making for herself in her kitchen. I find it personal and unfussy, and this edit is where I would start with the sets, the sprays and the body washes.

From a kitchen-table scent to a fragrance line

To me, By Rosie Jane feels like the fragrance counter after the rush: personal, lived-in, and less interested in ceremony than in memory. Rosie Johnston was born in Australia, moved to Los Angeles and worked as a celebrity makeup artist before she began mixing perfume for herself in 2008. She wanted to know what fragrance ingredients actually meant, and her own story shows how that curiosity became a scent of her own.

The family story is in the bottle names too: Leila Lou, the first perfume she sold in 2010, was named for her daughter. The line grew from those small batches into body wash, oil, perfume and mist, with Johnston still the formulator.

I like the throughline. Scent here belongs to a person's real hours, the shower, the commute, the quiet after dinner, and not to some special version of herself.

Small sets for finding your scent

The sets are the gentlest way into Johnston's point of view. The Mini Replica Duo Set and the Fragrance Discovery Set are my first picks if I want to live with a few scents before committing to a full bottle. The Mini Body + Hair Mist Set turns the idea into a quick refresh, while the Wake Mini Body Set, Calm Mini Body Set and Chill Mini Body Set keep it in the shower. I also put together Fragrance Beyond The Bottle: Mists, Oils, Solids And Sets.

Picture a weekend bag with the Mini Replica Duo Set tucked beside a soft tee, and the Wake Mini Body Set waiting at home for Monday. I would test one scent at a time and get through an ordinary morning before deciding what to layer.

Scent for the hours between plans

Here the line feels less like a perfume wardrobe and more like a scent you build into a day. DULCE Eau De Parfum is sweet, all vanilla, brown sugar and warm hinoki wood, and the DULCE Everyday Body Oil and DULCE Body Wash carry that mood into the shower and after. The DULCE Travel Spray and DULCE Home + Away keep it close when a day runs long.

ROSIE Everyday Body Wash is the softer counterpoint, and MIXTAPE Body + Hair Mist and BIRTHDAY SUIT Body + Hair Mist are the lighter ones I would reach for when I want a small refresh. Picture a late dinner after work, the travel spray in my bag, one spritz at the door. My tip is to keep the routine to one or two scented steps so the fragrance has room to breathe.

Why the everyday rituals matter

What I respect about By Rosie Jane is that it treats fragrance as something you live with, not a costume you put on for an entrance. That came from a founder who wanted to know what she was putting on her own skin, and the question still shapes the mix of perfume and body care.

I would start with Leila Lou or one of the small sets and let the scent earn its place in my mornings. Although the best ones tend to become a private shorthand for a season of life, whether you meant them to or not. I went deeper on a related idea in HEARTLOOM Outerwear & Sets: Where to Start.
