Bottega Veneta Medium Andiamo Outfit: How to Style the Bag

Bottega Veneta Medium Andiamo Outfit: How to Style the Bag

A Bottega Veneta medium Andiamo outfit starts with the bag's woven intrecciato leather, a weave the house has made in Vicenza since 1966. I go through the Andiamo in every size and as a clutch, then the house's other bags and the clothes to wear with them.

The Andiamo, and the rest of Bottega

Bottega Veneta started in Vicenza in 1966, when Michele Taddei and Renzo Zengiaro began weaving thin strips of leather together. That weave, intrecciato, became the house signature, and it is the reason the brand never needed a logo. Everything on this page is Bottega, from the bags at the top down to the coats, knits and shoes further on, because I think the Andiamo makes the most sense when you see the house around it. I went deeper on a related idea in Bottega Veneta Bag Dupe: The Woven Leather Alternatives Worth a Look.

The Andiamo was Matthieu Blazy's second bag for the house, after the Kalimero. It came down the runway at the start of his Summer 2023 show in Milan in September 2022 and reached stores the following February. The name means let's go in Italian, and the details back that up: a paper calf intrecciato body, braided straps and a metal knot taken from the house's Knot line. This first grid is the Andiamo in its bag sizes. The Medium in burgundy or black leather is the one I would start with, the denim bouclé version is the softer read of the same shape, and the canvas tote and the leather and canvas bag are the summer ones.

If the Medium feels like a lot of bag, go down a size. The Small Andiamo comes here in intrecciato leather in white, yellow and brown, in suede in blue and brown, in raffia, and as a little bucket bag. A simple test: hold the bag against your outfit in a mirror and notice what you see first. With the Andiamo, I want the bag first and everything else quiet. What I would skip: a second statement bag on the other arm.

For evening, go long and flat

The knot has been Bottega's evening signature for decades, first on the hard Knot clutch and now on the softer pieces around it. The Andiamo clutch takes the bag and flattens it: a long woven body, a slim top handle, and the metal knot sitting on the front like a clasp. The family has grown well past the original bag, and the clutches are where I think it is most fun.

The plain intrecciato leather clutches come in yellow, blue and burgundy, the East-West versions in brown and green, and the Long Andiamo, the slimmest of the lot, in white and black. The long ones are what you want with a narrow dress. For texture, the raffia clutch and the raffia and leather clutch are the warm-weather choices, the corduroy and shearling one is for winter, and the foiled satin clutch is the most dressed-up thing in the edit. The Andiamo 15 in burgundy suede sits somewhere in between.

A practical check: lay the clutch flat and see whether your phone fits without stretching the weave, because these are slim. I would carry one under the arm with tailoring rather than with a big gown, where the shape gets lost. What I would skip: a clutch if you rarely go out at night. The Small Andiamo in the grid above will see far more use.

A family tree of Bottega bags

Every Bottega creative director leaves a bag behind, and this grid reads a bit like a family tree. Daniel Lee, who ran the house from 2018 to 2021, gave it the Cassette and the Arco tote, and both are still here. The Chain Padded Cassette is the one that shows how far the weave can stretch, puffed up into big padded squares on a heavy chain. The small Arco is the cleaner everyday tote.

Blazy's first collection, for Fall 2022, brought in the Kalimero and the Sardine. The Kalimero Città is the puffy woven version with a braided strap tied in a knot, and the Sardine, with its curved gold handle shaped like the fish, is the bag I would pick for someone who already owns a plain black tote. The Hop is the slouchy hobo, in burgundy leather or tan suede, and the Medium Campana is a rounder hobo with a short handle. The green Veneta is the softest shoulder bag here, and the Madison and the Small Parachute are the chain-strap options.

For evening, the Knot clutch in black satin, the Soft Knot in yellow and the 1998 clutch carry on the knot idea, and the Giorno is a small suede bag for the weekend. The Small Ciao Ciao is a top handle with a knot on the flap, and the Small Loop is the little crossbody for a day with lots of walking. A good test is to decide whether you want the bag to open wide or close firmly, and let that choose for you. What I would skip: two bags with the same weave in one outfit.

Clothes from a leather house

Louise Trotter, who was named Blazy's successor in December 2024 and is the first woman to lead Bottega, opened her first show in September 2025 with a coat fastened by a knot of leather. I think that is the right way into Bottega clothes: they come from a leather house, and even the wool looks cut by someone who usually works with hides. The coats are the place to start. The Stretch-Wool Felt Long Coat is the plain black one I would wear every day, the Double-Breasted Cocoon Coat and the navy Cocoon peacoat are rounder and shorter, and the Belted Wool Mohair Gabardine Coat is the dressiest.

For a lighter layer, the Tailored Wool-Linen Melange Toile Jacket has the big shoulders, the Light Structured Cotton Stripe Jacket is shaped like a shirt, and the purple Resinated Metal Twill Parka has metal fiber woven into the twill, so it reads almost shiny in daylight.

Then the leather. Blazy's first show opened with what looked like a white tank top and jeans, and both turned out to be leather. The Denim-Printed Leather Trousers carry that joke on. The Brushed Suede Shirt is lambskin, the Pleated Leather Wide-Leg Pants and the white Leather Midi Skirt are the easy separates, and the Asymmetric Leather Dress is the one evening piece. What I would skip: leather head to toe. One leather piece with wool or cotton looks more like Bottega.

The weave, knitted in

Bottega's knitwear is where the weave turns up in places you would not expect. The Intrecciato-Knit Cashmere Sweater in light blue knits the basket pattern straight into the cashmere, and the Cotton Intrecciato-Knit Mini Skirt does the same thing in black and white cotton. Those two are the pieces I would buy if you want the house signature without carrying it on your arm.

The rest is plainer and, to me, more useful. The yellow V-Neck Cashmere Sweater and the green Cashmere Polo Top are soft enough to wear next to the skin, and the Knit Wool Sweater is the neutral one that goes under every coat in the grid above. For shirts, the pink Striped Silk Button-Down Shirt and the blue Oversized Cotton-Linen Shirt are the two I would wear with jeans, the light pink Striped Stretch-Crepe Shirt is the oversized one, and the Crocheted Cotton T-Shirt is for summer.

The skirts are long and quiet. The Ribbed Wool Midi Skirt and the Pleated Twill Midi Skirt both move when you walk, and the Cotton-Silk Midi Cargo Skirt is the more casual one, with pockets. A good test with knitwear: pinch the fabric and let go, and good cashmere should spring back. What I would skip: an intrecciato knit with an intrecciato bag. Pick one place for the weave.

From Puddle boots to the Andiamo belt

Daniel Lee made Bottega shoes a category of their own. His Puddle boots, the round rubber boots from Fall 2020, set off a whole wave of luxury rain boots, and his Lido sandal took the soft padded look of the bags and put it on a heel. Both are in this grid, the Lido in black nappa and the Puddle in rubber, and they still look like nothing else.

For fall, the boots are where I would start. The brown Banzai Leather Knee Boots have a sculpted heel, the Sofia 60mm Calfskin Ankle Boots are the low heel for the office, and the Lug Leather Ankle Boots are the chunky ones. The Astaire Knot Suede Loafers put the knot on the front of a loafer, and the Charlotte ballerina flats and Palazzo slippers are woven intrecciato leather. For evening, the Knot Metallic-Leather Sandals and the Leather Mule Pumps do the work, and the Blink mules, the Atomic raffia sandals, the Livia flat sandals and the Orbit sneakers cover the rest of the week.

The two belts are the smallest way into the house. The Andiamo belt has the same knot as the bag in grey leather, and the plain Leather Belt is the one to wear every day. What I would skip: the Andiamo belt with the Andiamo bag. One knot per outfit is plenty.

One bag doing the work

If I had to choose one piece from this whole edit, I would still keep the Medium Andiamo. It has the weave, the knot, the handle and the strap, so everything else can relax. By day I would wear it with the Oversized Cotton-Linen Shirt, the Pleated Leather Wide-Leg Pants and the Astaire loafers, so the bag is the one deliberate choice.

After dark, keep things in one color family and let the leather shine. A brown Andiamo with the brown Asymmetric Leather Dress and the gold Knot sandals looks calm, and a black one over the Stretch-Wool Felt Long Coat looks sharp. When the texture is this busy, plain jewelry is better than anything bold.

What I would skip: another statement bag, because the Andiamo already carries enough texture and hardware for two. If you want a second Bottega bag, make it something soft, like the Hop or the Giorno, and carry it on the days the Andiamo stays home. If you want to keep browsing, I also put together Balenciaga Rodeo Bag and Balenciaga City Bag.
