Barbara Barry's work starts with composition

Barbara Barry began in interior design, then extended that practice into product design. Her homepage describes design as a conversation between things, where small differences in texture and pattern shape how objects feel together.

Her biography describes long-standing partnerships across furniture, lighting, textiles, bedding, carpets, crystal, plumbing, tile and window coverings. We focus on furniture here, where her collection archive spans chairs, sofas, tables, storage and lighting.

Baker and McGuire give her furniture work a broad canvas

Fall 2024 brought two Barbara Barry collaborations to Baker-McGuire. Baker introduced 13 designs across tables, a desk and lamps, while McGuire presented 27 furniture pieces for living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms.

The Baker-McGuire collection page lists lounge and dining chairs, sofas, benches, tables, storage and display, lighting, beds and desks. In Fall 2025, Baker's Reserve collection revisited Barry's archival designs, including the Round Tiered End Table, Diamond Chest and Oval X Back Lounge Chair.

Where I would start with Barbara Barry's home pieces

I would begin with an armchair or dining chair, then let the tables and storage keep the composition moving. The Baker-McGuire room photographs show how her furniture can connect across a room rather than compete for attention. I would finish with a piece that adds a new line, like a nesting table or glass-front cabinet.
