Aniye By Skirts: The Best Pieces for Going Out

Aniye By Skirts: The Best Pieces for Going Out

Aniye By is an Italian label from Carpi that mixes vintage memory with a little rock and roll. I love it for night-out skirts and dresses that are romantic and slightly defiant at once.

Who is behind Aniye By

I am drawn to labels whose point of view starts somewhere real. Aniye By began in Carpi in 2000, when designer Alessandra Marchi turned the old-new tension in her own eye into a women's collection. She gathers ideas from her travels and from garments she has saved, then works with her team to give familiar things another life. That is the clearest way I know to understand the ReVintage instinct: a romantic detail and a rock edge can sit at the same table without either one having to behave.

The company has stayed local too, still rooted in Carpi, which suits a label this attached to memory. A few years on, Marchi took the attitude to film with Lotty Love, a three-part rock-and-roll story that introduced looks for Autumn/Winter 2021-22. Vintage memory, night-out glamour and a little defiance are what I come back for.

Skirts with a little rock and roll

Skirts are where I would start if I wanted one piece to change the temperature of an outfit. The Janis Skirt in cognac is a warm, earthy anchor, so I would let that color lead and keep everything else dark. The Lexa Belt Skirt already has the waist sorted, which makes a plain fitted knit an easy partner. I would keep shoes and jewelry spare with the Kate Mini Skirt in gold rose and save it for after dark. The Lavinia Mini Skirt in black is the quieter counterpoint, ready for a printed blouse or a soft sweater.

In my fashion dreams she takes the Janis to a late gallery opening with a black jacket and boots. That balance between a familiar shape and a little attitude feels very Aniye By. My rule is to choose one focal point, the belt or the color, and leave the rest calm.

Dresses and layers for a night out

This is where Marchi's contrasting moods are easiest to wear together. The Tessa Mini Dress in soft skin is a neutral starting point, while the Xena Flamingo Dress in black vinyl gives a night out a sharper finish. The Sienna Blazer Dress in black feels tailored without losing the playful edge. On top, the Roxette Faux Fur Jacket in hyena makes a cold-weather outfit theatrical, and the Shana Bustier Jacket in black turns a plain tank and trousers into a proper dinner look.

I would pull the Daliah Baggy Pant in stone check back with a fitted top, and the Camil Pant in berry love is the color note I would build around. Picture her at a late dinner in the Sienna Blazer Dress, then trading it for the Daliah with a white tee the next day. What I would skip is mixing the faux fur with a loud print. Let one print or texture talk and keep the accessories clean.

A wardrobe with its own soundtrack

Whenever I think about Aniye By, I come back to Marchi's idea that old fashion memories do not need to stay in the past. A mini dress, a sharply cut blazer dress or a skirt with a little shine can all feel like one wardrobe when the mood stays personal. I like that the rock references are not a costume requirement, because these pieces work with jeans, a plain knit or boots already in the closet. This is clothing for someone who wants to feel a little more herself when she gets dressed. I went deeper on a related idea in Aniye Records Tops: The Pieces Worth a Look.
